Google can be pretty easy to use, but sometimes it's hard to tell the useful websites from the fluff. If you decide to use Google to find information, it's important to think about when, why and how each website was created. Develop your skeptical eye!
Here are some tips:
- The CRAAP Test! It's a way to quickly evaluate the information you find. You can use the CRAAP test to judge all types of information, from websites to academic journal articles.
- Look for websites that end in .edu or .gov. These sites are sponsored by educational or governmental organizations, so the information in them is more likely to be reliable.
- Remember, whether a source is "valid" depends on the context. We are all "authorities" in one way or another, particularly when it comes to our own lived experience.
